The Department of Mathematics and Statistics, in the Faculty of Science of Dalhousie University, is soliciting applications from excellent candidates for a Tier II Canada Research Chair in the mathematical modelling of oil and gas flow. The successful candidate will work with researchers in the Departments of Earth Sciences and Oceanography, and in the Faculty of Engineering, on modelling problems arising in the petroleum industry.

The skills required by this person include:

  • (1) Experience in developing mathematical models of fluid flow or the use of signal analysis for application to flow assurance in the petroleum industry.
  • (2) Knowledge of numerical techniques for solving differential equations, differential-algebraic equations, optimization problems and stochastic differential equations.
  • (3) Scientific computing skills in a mixture of environments and languages, and expertise in the area of parallel computing for large scale problems.
  • (4) Experience in working with experts in geoscience and petroleum engineering.

The deadline for applications is 1 March 2005.

Applications should be sent to:

Dr. P. Keast, Chair
