International Category Theory Conference
CT 2006

White Point, Nova Scotia, June 25 - July 1, 2006

The International Category Theory Conference (CT) covers all areas of pure and applied category theory. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: higher dimensional categories, categorical logic, applications of categories in algebra, topology, combinatorics, and other areas of mathematics, applications of category theory to computer science, physics and other mathematical sciences. Previous meetings in this series were held in Vancouver (2004), Como (2000), Coimbra (1999), Vancouver (1997), Halifax (1995), Tours (1994), Isle of Thorns (1992), Montreal (1991), and Como (1990).

CT 2006 was held at the White Point Beach Resort in Nova Scotia (Canada). It was an active research-oriented conference, in something of an "Oberwolfach style". The seaside setting offered more opportunities for informal discussion and collaboration in the evenings than might have been the case in an urban setting. There were also many opportunities for recreational activities.

All those interested in category theory and its applications were welcome.

Post Conference

The CT 2006 conference is now over. Many speakers have agreed to make copies of their slides available. If you are a speaker and haven't yet sent your slides, you are still welcome to do so and I will post them. Also, I hope that some people will send me their pictures of the conference, in particular the group photos. I will be happy to post them here.

Proceedings

The proceedings of CT 2006 are being published as a special issue of the journal Theory and Applications of Categories (TAC). More articles will be added to the special issue as they are refereed and accepted. The proceedings are available from the following link:

Submission Procedure: To submit an article to the conference proceedings, please send your paper, by January 15, 2007, to any member of the TAC editorial board. Articles should be prepared in the TAC style and should be submitted electronically in Postscript or PDF format. Please be sure to indicate, along with your submission, that you wish your article to be considered for the "CT 2006 special issue". (The article should be related to your CT 2006 talk). Please also send a copy of your request to the TAC managing editor (in addition to whatever editor you are submitting to). All the articles received will be refereed by the same procedure, and to the same high standards, as any other paper submitted to TAC. Caveat: in the unlikely event that there will be very few submissions, the editors reserve the right to cancel the special issue. In this case, the successful articles will be published as part of a regular TAC volume.

Special Session, Mac Lane and Eilenberg

The conference included a special commemorative session in honor of the two founders of category theory, Saunders Mac Lane and Samuel Eilenberg. The session was organized and chaired by Bill Lawvere.

Invited Speakers

The conference had invited lectures by the following people:
  • Kathryn Hess (EPF Lausanne)
  • Steve Lack (University of Western Sydney)
  • Tom Leinster (University of Glasgow)
  • Steve Schanuel (SUNY Buffalo)
  • Peter Selinger (Dalhousie University)

Registration

Registration is no longer available. The registration fees for CT 2006 were as follows:
