The Climate
Halifax has pleasantly warm sunny days (about 225 hours of sunshine in August)
with average highs around 23oC and lows about 15oC. Hot
weather is rare since the gentle ocean breezes from the Atlantic Ocean provides
a natural cooling. There are on average 10 days in the month of August with
measurable precipitation.

The City and Surroundings
The greater Halifax region is home to about 300,000 residents. Large enough for
all the convenience and entertainment of a large city but small enough to get
around easily and quickly without traffic jams. The city is located on one of
the best natural harbours in the world on the south-central coast in the
province of Nova Scotia on the eastern seaboard of Canada. It is a short drive
to numerous beaches and scenic coastal vistas including Peggy’s Cove. The ocean
waters are a bit cool for swimming but there are numerous warm inland lakes
around Halifax. Nova Scotia remains a very popular designation for tourists who
are pleasantly surprised by the moderate summer climate, the hospitality of the
locals and the very favourable exchange rate (especially for U.S. currency).
Think about combining the Conference trip with a bit of summer vacationing.
