Computers are a wonderful invention, but that doesn't mean that they are perfect. They sometimes freeze up or just don't do what is expected. In these cases, there are a few remedies to try before getting frustrated and completely shutting off the computer. |
- If a page has a visual problem (i.e. tables are not complete, colours run from a table into the background, or images look incomplete), then hold down the "shift" key on your keyboard and click the "Reload" or "Refresh" button on the menu bar at the top your web browser's page. This should do the trick.
- If you flip through pages, skip through questions in the tutorials, or change values in an applet very rapidly, it may take the computer some time to complete all the tasks that you have given it. Be patient. In most cases, it just needs some time. If you have waited quite awhile and the new page, question or graph has not appeared, try to reload the page as described in the point above. If this still does not work, you may have to shut down your web browser or reboot your computer.
- If a new page is being loaded and the tutorial questions are not appearing, try to move the mouse over the tutorial applet a few times (no need to click on anything). The questions should appear after doing this. If the questions still do not appear, try to reload the page.
- If the computer freezes up (i.e. you are unable to click on anything or type anything), then reboot your computer (turn it off and then on again, or press "control", "alt" and "delete" ["Del"] all at the same time). This problem can occur quite frequently on a PC if you have flipped through many pages quite rapidly, causing memory overload.
