This short course on conic sections was created as an aid for
classroom instruction and, as with any resource material, can be used in a variety
of different ways. Here are some suggestions we have: |
- Self-study of the conic sections by students with
the teacher serving as a guide. This is probably most appropriate when there are only a
small number of students in the class. In this case, we have provided, at the beginning
of each lesson, a page of "notes
to keep you on task" that the student can print out and use to track their progress through
the lesson. Each lesson also includes a quiz that can be printed and administered
so the teacher can evaluate student understanding of the lesson.
|
- In-class demonstrations using the
Conics Laboratory
which can be found through the Main Menu.
|
- Assignment of single topics to individual students who would benefit from extra work on those themes.
|
- Finally, you may wish to work through the lessons yourself as you prepare to teach the conic sections components in the curriculum. This will, at least, provide you with ideas for using the Conics Laboratory
for demonstrations.
