Welcome to the Parabola Module!
Parabolas can be seen in the cross section of a satellite dish and of a telescope's mirror.
In the Extensions Module, you will learn all about a very special feature of the parabola. This feature is the reason that these shapes are used as satellite dishes and as telescope mirrors. |

Look closely at the satellite dish on the right. Notice the dark line drawn on the surface of this dish. If you were to cut along this line and look at the resulting cross section, you would be looking at a parabola.
Before you start, print off the Notes to keep you on task page. As you work through this module, fill in the blanks. At the end, you will then have some brief notes to study from. |
